Changing the Way We Think about Growing Mindset Changing the Way We Think about Growing

What is your mindset? I prefer success vs. I prefer challenge I feel smart when I am learning vs. I feel smart when I am flawless I am not afraid of failing vs. I fear failure I love to be praised for my talents vs. I love to be praised for my efforts

Mindset Mindset affects the way people view themselves and their interactions with others. People exercise either a growth or fixed mindset. A growth mindset involves effort, risk taking, resilience, change, and courage. A fixed mindset involves safety, proving, validation, comparisons, and reputation. We can have growth mind sets in certain areas and fixed mindsets in others.

Fixed Mindset People born with a fixed mind set believe that talents are determined at birth. They guard themselves against situations when the feel the need to prove their personal worth. Challenges are viewed negatively instead of an opportunity for personal growth

Fixed Traits List 3 fixed traits- smart, thin, beautiful, lazy, stupid, kind, athletic, funny, outgoing etc. that your family has pinned on you. Children as young as 2 can name some of them. How does labeling both positive and negative interfere with learning and motivation?

Growth Mindset People that practice a growth mindset believe intelligence, talents and abilities can be developed over time through hard work and persistence. When presented with an obstacle, growth mindset folks rise to the challenge.
