3. What is Mindset?  Discovered by Carol Dweck – psychologist at Stanford University  Research on achievement and success  Mindset – a simple idea that makes all the difference  Two kinds of mindsets:  Fixed Mindset  Growth Mindset

Fixed mindset vs.Growth mindset Beliefs *Believe basic qualities*Abilities can be developed - intelligence or talent - through hard work and (fixed traits) dedication - document intelligence -Develop intelligence - talent alone creates - Creates a love of learning success without effort - fosters resilience essential for great accomplishment

8. What can you as a parent do?  Fixed mindset message says:  “You have permanent traits and I’m judging them….” ******Growth mindset message says:  “You are a developing person and I am interested in your development.”

9. Instilling growth mindset  Praise them for EFFORT  Say: “I like the way you approached that problem.” OR  Say: “Good job to hang in there and find a different strategy that did work.” OR  Say: “Sorry, that seemed to be too easy for you, let’s do something more challenging.”

10. Statements like this teach kids that effort is something we ALL can benefit from to reach our full potential, AND that they need to be working purposefully in order to grow!
