RI ™ © DrO 2012 THE FOUR-WAY TEST of the things we think, say or do 1. Is it the TRUTH? 2. Is it FAIR to all concerned? 3. Will it build GOOD WILL and BETTER FRIENDSHIPS? 4. Will it be BENEFICIAL to all concerned?

RI ™ © DrO 2012 Service Above Self u Rotary soon recognized that fellowship alone would not keep a group together— there needed to be a purpose. u First project was a public washroom in downtown Chicago. Then, a horse to replace a rural physician’s only transportation to service Juliet patients. u Rotary became the world’s first “service club”.

RI ™ © DrO 2012 Object of Rotary The object of Rotary is to encourage and foster the ideal of service as a basis of worthy enterprise and, in particular, to encourage and foster: u First. The development of acquaintance as an opportunity for service; u Second. High ethical standards in business and professions; the recognition of the worthiness of all useful occupations; and the dignifying by each Rotarian of his or her occupation as an opportunity to serve society; u Third. The application of the ideal of service by every Rotarian to his or her personal, business, and community life; u Fourth. The advancement of international understanding, goodwill, and peace through a world of fellowship of business and professional people united in the ideal of service.

RI ™ © DrO 2012 Club Service— Operating the club successfully. Vocational Service— Promoting the “ideal of service” throughout their business or professional world. Community Service— Participating in all activities that make the community a better place in which to live. International Service— Encouraging and fostering the advancement of understanding and goodwill among people of the world.
