Tuesday – November 3, 2015 Entry Task  Independent reading  Read at least half of your book by 11/20 Agenda Vocab run-through “The Stolen Party” – Writing how and why commentary – Turn in assignment at end of class Homework: 1.Vocab packet – Thursday 2.ALL missing work – tomorrow

You will need… Pen/pencil “The Stolen Party” TCCD + CM assignment Yellow writing packet

Learning Targets I will write effective how and why commentary to explain my ideas

Success Criteria Students will have… …gone through vocabulary powerpoint …written commentary on “The Stolen Party”

What is a chunk ? A chunk of cheese??? Chocolate-chunk ice cream???? -I wish…

A chunk is…. Piece of writing that responds to a prompt with evidence and opinion 1 CD – written as TCCD 2 CMs

What is commentary ? Your opinion on HOW the CD shows the concept and WHY the CD is important to the story. For “The Stolen Party” assignment that means… 1.Explain HOW the CD shows internal or external conflict. 2.Explain WHY the CD is important to the theme.

Example chunk In “The Most Dangerous Game” by Richard Connell, Rainsford is described as a skilled and confident man. For example, Whitney mentions Rainsford’s eyesight: “…” (). This shows that Rainsford can shoot a target from far away which means he has really good aim with a gun. This is important because this skill helps him survive the most dangerous game. Purple = Concrete Detail Red = HOW Commentary Green = WHY Commentary
