JSSA- Preliminary Key Findings

FINDING 1 Satoyamas and Satoumis provide resilient systems in times of unpredictable climate change. FINDING 2 Traditional knowledge and cultural heritage might be lost as Satoyama and Satoumi landscapes dissappear

FINDING 3 Satoyama and Satoumi are biodiversity rich systems managed for sustainable human development FINDING 4 New governance structures comprising of a synergetic package of economic, legal, and regulatory instruments need to be initiated in order to scale up present Satoyama and Satoumi initiatives.

Satoyama and Sustainability– One Society One Planet How can Sustainability be secured? Sustainability needs to be secured through a social process involving all stakeholders in the communities. It should be a deliberative process that sets a dividing line between the moral and ethical values of preserving and managing the system in a sustainable manner.
