G. Dissertori ETHZ CMS Electronics ECAL DCS : Plans for 2003 G. Dissertori ETHZ

G. Dissertori ETHZ CMS Electronics ECAL Electronics, DCS  Software: prototype slow control system  Hardware:  Sensor issues  Readout  Other business Contents

G. Dissertori ETHZ CMS Electronics ECAL Electronics, DCS Main DCS console (PVSS, JCOP Framework) Main DCS console (PVSS, JCOP Framework) HV (PVSS) LV (?) DSS (PVSS) Cooling (?) Laser (?) Temp/Humid. Monit. (PVSS) DAQ DB/ Archive DIM(?), XDAQ/PVSS DIM ?

G. Dissertori ETHZ CMS Electronics ECAL Electronics, DCS HVLVDSSCooling TEMP. + HUMID. Monit. ALARMS LASER DAQ Main DCS Console DB/ARCH

G. Dissertori ETHZ CMS Electronics ECAL Electronics, DCS FRAMEWORK issues A. Lister (ETHZ) just started to work on it first prototype to be ready for SM0 with FSM, partitioning, alarm handling, XDAQ interface... Note : planned that Alison leaves for CDF end 2003 (for some time). See man power issues....

G. Dissertori ETHZ CMS Electronics ECAL Electronics, DCS Software: HV they use CAEN PS. Supported by JCOP. Rome group will develop the HV PVSS application prototype should be ready for SM0 they will have Labview as backup Software : LV exact system not yet defined ( in terms of hardware ) planned to use DCUs (CCUs) to control the LVRs therefore: will use XDAQ, need PVSS - XDAQ interface hopefully a very first prototype ready for SM0 (?)

G. Dissertori ETHZ CMS Electronics ECAL Electronics, DCS DSS (safety) a first prototype already used in 2002 (M0’) the Belgrade group will build the software application should be ready for SM0 need good communication with DAQ, in order to get information from sensors integrated in PCBs needs communication with cooling sensors: as close as possible to final solution (2 sensors per module, NTC thermistors)

G. Dissertori ETHZ CMS Electronics ECAL Electronics, DCS Temp./Humid. Monit. issues a first prototype already used in 2002 (M0’) the Protvino group (together with ETHZ) will build the software application should be ready for SM0 needs communication with cooling (discussion will take place with J. Cogan and O. Teller) sensors : as close as possible to final solution : 10 temp.sensors per supermodule (4 on grid, 4 on screen, 2 on IN/OUT pipes, NTC thermistors). 1 humidity sensor per module

G. Dissertori ETHZ CMS Electronics ECAL Electronics, DCS Software : Laser - DCS Need to start discussion now I assume they will have their own software (not PVSS) but at least we need software communication with the Laser system in order to know hardware status

G. Dissertori ETHZ CMS Electronics ECAL Electronics, DCS Communication with DAQ first tests for communication ECAL PVSS - XDAQ first half of 2003 so hopefully ready for SM0 As long as “J.Fay/J. Bourotte DAQ” is the run controller, have to communicate : agreement on the interface to be found

G. Dissertori ETHZ CMS Electronics ECAL Electronics, DCS  had a meeting recently (HV, LV, TSS, F. Glege)  for mid-2003 (SM0) : first prototype of DCS software system in PVSS  should include HV, LV, Temp.Monit., TSS, Cooling?, Framework with FSM, Partitioning, communication with XDAQ and ECAL DAQ?  test of this prototype during 2003  beg. 2004: production setup for the SM calibration at H4  during 2004, probably all resources needed for calibration  beg. 2005: first tests of a setup for full ECAL (maybe start with reduced size)  may have to find a location to do such a test  from mid 2005 on : install equipment and start testing of the full system  beg : full system ready Planning: Software

G. Dissertori ETHZ CMS Electronics ECAL Electronics, DCS  up to end-2003 : subprojects software covered by responsible groups, framework covered, but I guess with substantial help/input needed (from Frank Glege, I guess)  end : have to shift manpower (1 person) to framework, probably from TSS and Temp. monitoring  in : would like to get help for the test and integration of full system, also for the interfacing with the DAQ : 1 person (0.5 FTE ?) Planning: Manpower for software

G. Dissertori ETHZ CMS Electronics ECAL Electronics, DCS  Sensors:  Temperature sensors : prototypes of sensors + probes to be irradiated in Protvino early spring next year. Start production in  Humidity : Many humidity sensors tested by Tracker DCS, maybe a good candidate found. Will be neutron -irradiated in Louvain. Decide on sensor spring  Hall probes : Had discussion yesterday with A. Gaddi, E. Sbrissa, G. Maire: For hall probes, NMR sensors and flux loops it is taken care. NMR probes will be placed in gap between EB and HB, and read out also when down in the pit.  Radiation sensors: Had a first discussion, CMS wide group is taking care, no sensors inside SM.  So for SM0: plan to put the same sensor type and number as foreseen for the final system (see spec. document) Hardware : Developments and Plans

G. Dissertori ETHZ CMS Electronics ECAL Electronics, DCS  Read out:  RBFE chip : chip for sensor excitation and signal conditioning (from LHC ACR). New version (DMILL) will be there early in Have to place order before end of Non-radhard version will be send to Belgrade now to allow for tests there, in view of its usage also for DSS.  MUX : just before XMAS: will do irradation tests of a MAXIM MUX at PSI. Could be used also for H4. However, will look into 0.25mu MUX by CERN MIC to arrive early in  BOARD for RBFE + MUX : development taking place now in Protvino  KEITHLEY : If software (PVSS interface) ready and working, could use the RBFE - MUX - Keithley readout model in 2003 (at H4).  Cabling: Have started discussion with W. Funk about cabling in EE. Hardware : Developments and Plans

G. Dissertori ETHZ CMS Electronics ECAL Electronics, DCS  Integration : will start discussion very soon on details of sensor integration in a SM  DCS lab : have organized a little office at the Prevessin Site, will serve as development lab.  Protvino : are elaborating detailed working plan, increase in man power planned. Investigating possibility of purchasing equipment for them equivalent to the one used at CERN.  Preshower : interests in collaboration for DCS have been expressed by two groups  Conclusions : 2003 will be busy for DCS... AOB - Conclusions
