Freight, Logistics & Passenger Operations FLORIDA DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION CAPITAL MAINTENANCE AND CAPITAL GRANT REQUIREMENTS

CAPITAL MAINTENANCE FUNDING REQUIREMENTS

Preventive maintenance (PM) is a fundamental, planned maintenance activity designed to improve equipment life and avoid any unplanned maintenance activity. This maintenance includes:  Systematic inspection  Detection  Correction  Prevention of incipient failures Preventive maintenance is the foundation of the entire maintenance strategy. Unless the PM program is effective, all subsequent maintenance strategies take longer to implement, incur higher costs, and have a higher probability of failure. Definition - What does Preventive Maintenance (PM) mean?

Scheduled maintenance is planned component repair or replacement, often triggered by preventive maintenance inspections or pre-trip and post-trip inspections. Eighty percent (80%) of all maintenance should be scheduled maintenance. Scheduled Maintenance Unscheduled maintenance is work that results from breakdowns, unexpected failures, often triggering road calls and usually causing expensive downtime of labor crews. Unscheduled Maintenance
