Industrialization

Assembly Line Tasks: 1. Take 3 sheets plain and 3 sheets grid paper. 2. Stack paper in alternating order (plain, grid, plain, grid, ect.) 3. measure and cut 2 feet of ribbon/yarn and tie a knot around the papers. 4. Stack finished products/quality control/keep count.

Individual Tasks (each of these must be done on your own without the help of others): 1. Take 3 sheets plain and 3 sheets colored paper. 2. Stack paper in alternating order (plain, grid, plain, grid, ect.) 3. measure and cut 1 foot of ribbon/yarn and tie a knot around the papers. 4. Stack finished products/quality control/keep count.

1. Which group was most productive? Why do you think that is? If the assembly lines did not make the most products, what was the problem? 2. What are some disadvantages of assembly lines? Think back to the days of the Industrial Revolution, when workers frequently worked 12 or more hours per day. 3. What would be the advantages of trying out different students in different places on the assembly line or rotating students so no one works the same job for too long?
