Rome By Ben Goldsmith Rome, the capital of Italy, is a magnificent city which has many different places to see such as the Colosseum, the Arch of Constantine, the Pantheon, and the Trajan's Column. This Ancient city is one of many that were occupied during the reign of the Roman empire, which built many building which are still standing today. Did you know that some of the buildings were built over 2000 years ago!

The Colosseum The Colosseum or otherwise known as the Flavian Amphitheatre is one of the oldest buildings still standing in Rome at the present time. Building started in 72AD by Emperor Vespasian and was completed by his son in 80AD. The Colosseum was built for entertainment purposes where there would be fierce battles between opposing gladiators and sometimes animals. The arena was massive with a total of 55,000 spectators who entered through 80 arched doors. The practices of killing humans for entertainment was progressively ceased by the Christians. I chose this attraction because of it’s historical significance.

Trajans Forum Trajan's Forum, build by the Emperor Trajan is a marvelous place to visit. It was built into the side of a mountain which was a big challenge for Trajan and his colleagues as this had never been done before. This great building was home to many Greek and Latin libraries, colossal statues, a massive central piazza and a two story basilica. This is one of the biggest tourist sites in Rome and also one of the most well preserved. I have chosen this tourist destination because of its architecture.

Piazza del Campidoglio The Piazza del Campidoglio is made up 3 main buildings which are located on the top of Capitol Hill. It was once a place where people would come to pray to the Roman gods but now it is being used as a building for the Italian government. The current building was built around On Piazza del Campidoglio you can also find the famous statue of She-wolf with the twins Romulus and Remus (the myth behind the creation of the city of Rome). I chose this site because of its political importance.

Fountain of Four Rivers Even from the early ages, the Romans have always been obsessed with the beauty and tranquility of fountains. Back when there were no taps residents would have to collect their drinking water from fountains which were at the end of every street (obviously not as good as these). The fountain of four rivers shows the gods of four rivers in four different continents (the Nile in Africa, the Ganges in Asia, the Danube in Europe and the Río de la Plata in America. ). The statues also depict the animals, plants and terrain of the regions. I chose this site because of its great architecture.
