Geographical situation  Vigan´s knives is a nature monument, situated in the municipality of Antigua and Tuineje, on the east of Fuerteventura. It occupies a surface of hectares. It has an altitude between 462 and 470 metres.

Why is this area protected?  Vigan´s knives is a protected area because it is a nature space with protected birds. Also, it is important because they cultivate bananas and tomatoes. But the most important is the geological natural value of the knives.  Furthermore, the place is of paleontological, importance due to the existence of marine fossils.

Enviromental characteristics  Inside the nature monument there are different characteristics:  1-The knives present a very abrupt relief  2-The climate is very windy  3-The mountains are in a process of desertification  4-It rains very little

Enviromental problems or impacts  The principal environmental problem of Vigan´s knives are:  1-Eroded zones with many slopes  2-Ranching of very scanty coast  3-Only the lava or malpais is protected.

Flora and Fauna  The knives represent an important habitat for birds there are the egyptian vulture, the fish eagle and the falcon, the three of them are threatened species in the Canaries.  Among the flora we find plants of great scientific value. Also, in the fauna we find marine fossil of great scientific interest.
