According to ABET, ENGINEERING MANAGEMENT and similarly named programs are defined as follows:

ABET PROGRAM CRITERIA FOR ENGINEERING MANAGEMENT AND SIMILARLY NAMED ENGINEERING PROGRAMS ENGINEERING MANAGEMENT AND SIMILARLY NAMED These program criteria apply to engineering programs using management or similar modifiers in their titles. 1. Curriculum The program must demonstrate that graduates have: an understanding of the engineering relationships between the management tasks of planning, organization, leadership, control, and the human element in production, research, and service organizations; an understanding of and dealing with the stochastic nature of management systems. They must also be capable of demonstrating the integration of management systems into a series of different technological environments. 2. Faculty The major professional competence of the faculty must be in engineering, and the faculty should be experienced in the management of engineering and/or technical activities.

For comparison, ABET defines INDUSTRIAL ENGINEERING and similarly named programs as:

ABET PROGRAM CRITERIA FOR INDUSTRIAL AND SIMILARLY NAMED ENGINEERING PROGRAMS These program criteria apply to engineering programs using industrial or similar modifiers in their titles. 1. Curriculum The program must demonstrate that graduates have the ability to design, develop, implement, and improve integrated systems that include people, materials, information, equipment and energy. The program must include in-depth instruction to accomplish the integration of systems using appropriate analytical, computational, and experimental practices. 2. Faculty Evidence must be provided that the program faculty understand professional practice and maintain currency in their respective professional areas. Program faculty must have responsibility and sufficient authority to define, revise, implement, and achieve program objectives.

The mission of ITU Management Engineering Program is to graduate innovative and inquisitive management engineers, who are imbued with strong moral virtues of their profession and are able to design, implement, manage and continuously improve systems and applications that are geared to identify and solve problems with technological, economic, legal and managerial dimensions in business, industry, government and non-profit settings. These core principles are in line with ITU’s and Management Engineering Department’s missions.

ABET PROGRAM OUTCOMES a.An ability to apply knowledge of mathematics, science, and engineering to Management Engineering problems b.An ability to design and conduct experiments, and to analyze and interpret gathered data c.An ability to design a system, component, or process to meet desired needs within realistic constraints such as economic, environmental, social, political, ethical, health and safety, manufacturability, and sustainability d.An ability to function on multi-disciplinary teams e.An ability to identify, formulate, and solve Management Engineering problems f.An understanding of professional and ethical responsibility g.An ability to communicate effectively h.The broad education necessary to understand the impact of Management Engineering solutions in a global, economic, environmental, and societal context i.An ability to engage in life-long learning j.A knowledge and understanding of contemporary issues k.An ability to use the techniques, skills and modern engineering tools necessary for Management Engineering practice ME1. An ability to integrate management systems into stochastic technological environments ME2. An ability to demonstrate leadership and entrepreneurial skills [1]

The Educational objectives (revised by stakeholders) of management engineering program are to graduate students who Have a strong grounding in management engineering concepts, models and techniques as well as a solid understanding of ethical matters Have a sound understanding of and a strong ability for the practice of lifelong learning Demonstrate effective team working, leadership and entrepreneurial skills with regard to diverse engineering settings, systems and projects Have an ability to integrate their skills and knowledge into proactive, innovative and sustainable solutions for business, industry, government and non-profit settings.

Program outcomes are statements about knowledge, skills and competences that graduates must have at the graduation whereas educational objectives are the ones they have 3-5 years after graduation.
