4-H Electric Congress Records & 4-H Opportunities

 4-H record books are part of the 4-H project curriculum  They are designed to teach youth to keep accurate records of their project  Records are a tool to make the total project a learning experience – a record allows us to look at the project in its entirety.  Records help the member to do a self-evaluation.  Records help the leaders to know how their members are progressing.  Records are one of the tools used in the awards selections process 4-H Record Books

 Use the book to learn about the subject  Expand your knowledge. Learn more about the subject using other sources.  Choose an activity that you would like to do that involved using the knowledge you have learned.  Complete the activity.  Document what you did and learned using the proper project record book sheet. My 4-H Plan  Your 4-H plan should also include any goals relating to community service, leadership and citizenship  Make sure and list your goal and the date you hope to accomplish the goal by. Some goals you make work towards all year long, and you can put all year as the date, but don’t use this as the date for everything.  You do not have to categorize your plan as I have done on this PPT – however, the older & busier 4-H’er may want to do this to make it easier for judging Community Service I plan to help at the Soup Kitchen with County Council Jan. Electric Portfolio’s  A 4-H’er who completes an Electric Portfolio is not guaranteed a trip to NC 4-H Electric Congress. Portfolio Record Electric Congress Delegates are selected based on the quality and content of their cumulative book by a trained selection committee. All books are expected to meet the State Office format requirements.

Selection criteria include:  Knowledge and skills gained while participating in the 4-H Electric Project  Exhibit an increase in knowledge each year  4-H experiences in Leadership, Citizenship & Community Service  Sharing the 4-H Electric program with others (includes teaching or assisting with electric project activities)

Project Records – 1 complete year of work – Jan. 1 – Dec. 31, County 4-H Portfolio – Check with your county! State Deadline – March 1, 2015 Dates to Remember

4-H College Scholarships What:Money for college! Why:Because it helps pay the bills! Who:Any 4-H’er entering college as a FR – few upperclassmen scholarships. Some are renewable How:NC 4-H Scholarship Form, letters of reference, college entrance exam (SAT) score, transcript, resume When:Due in Raleigh by February 1

 Award:70+ scholarships ranging from $500 - $2000  Over $62,000 awarded annually
