Geography Controlled Assessment Lessons 4 and 5 – Writing your Introduction

Recap You should know the aims, key questions and hypothesis which form the basis of your controlled assessment. The study guide tells you exactly what to include in your introduction (p4) with ideas on how to present maps (p5 and p6). You may have produced the sketch map which you will include in your introduction.

Learning Objectives Explain the meaning of sustainability using a model (eg sustainability stool/Egan’s wheel) Introduce your enquiry

Task – Writing the Introduction FOLLOW THE GUIDELINES ON p4 OF THE STUDY GUIDE YOU HAVE THIS AND NEXT LESSON TO COMPLETE YOUR INTRODUCTION (5 SUB-SECTIONS). NB: This is “Low Control” so you can compare ideas and get verbal feedback from your teacher. TIPS: As part of your introduction, you need to set the scene (geographical context) of your study. Eg… …Defining “Sustainability” …Giving at least one example of a model of urban sustainability (eg stool/Egan/?) …Showing why sustainability in towns/cities is important (newspaper article quote/facts – eg about energy/waste/recycling/pollution/?)
