 The primary objective of any TPS is to capture, process, and store transactions and to produce a variety of documents related to routine business activities.  Examples of TPS -MerlinTeller -Self Checkout at Walmart and/or Target -System for making Airlines Reservation

 In 1960, the first TPS was created for American Airlines  SABRE (Semi-Automated Business Research Environment)  The system was created to for the Airline company to make expedient reservations. With this system installed American Airlines became able to automate reservations.

 Today Sabre GDS has to assist over 300,000 travel agent companies globally, 400 airlines, 25 car rental brands, 50 rail providers and 14 cruise lines.  Sabre is also the company that is behind Travelocity, which is considered one of the best online traveling agencies today.

 Batch processing- In terms of business transactions, there is some delay between the processing and occurrence of an event.  On-Line/Real Time Processing (OLTP)- Transactions are updated in real time, with no delay in the occurrence of the event.  On-Line Entry with Delayed Processing- Orders are entered into the system but are not processed immediately.
