The Apostles’ Creed A Guide to the Ancient Statement of Faith Session 3: Who Is This Jesus?

Who Is This Jesus? What are some titles or names you would use to describe Jesus? Do these describe Him in human terms or divine terms? Do you personally tend to think of Jesus in terms of His humanity or in terms of His divinity? Why?

Jesus: Divine or Human? John 1:1-5, What is this passage about? How do we know that “the Word” is Jesus? In what way does this passage highlight the divinity of Jesus? In what way does this passage highlight the humanity of Jesus? Do you think it could be successfully argued that Jesus was not divine? How about not being human?

What does His nature mean for us? Do you personally tend to think of Jesus in terms of His humanity or in terms of His divinity? Why? How do you think your expectations of Jesus affect the way you live your life? If it is heavily weighted on one side or the other, how would it change your relationship with Jesus to think of Him more in terms of the opposite quality?

Why is it important? Hebrews 4:14-16 Why is it important that Jesus is both fully human and fully divine? What is Jesus able to do for us because these are both true? If Jesus were only divine, would we be able to find freedom from sin? If Jesus were only human, would His death and His resurrection make a difference in our salvation?
