Beam Wire Scanner for PS/SPS/PSB Mechanical 3D Model Review (for BE/RF-ABP Impedance meeting 02.Nov.2015) Dmitry Gudkov Mechanical Engineer BE/BI-ML

 Beam Wire Scanner Functional Description.  Beam Wire Scanner Upgraded system and Prototype in PSB.  Prototype in PSB. 3D model review.  Schedule  Questions and Discussion Contents

Beam Wire Scanner Upgraded system and Prototype in PSB New Design (Upgraded system) Smaller beam sizes at higher beam intensities High velocity of the wire - 20ms-1 Accurate and direct wire position determination without bellows All the mobile parts are located inside the vacuum chamber and share the same shaft New design is needed First Prototype in the PSB PSB 4L1

Vacuum chamber Wire Fork Shaft Viewport Optical disk protection Prototype in the PSB 3D model: N. Chritin (MME)

Prototype in the PSB 3D model: N. Chritin (MME)

Beam Wire Scanner Prototype for PSB. Schedule

Series Production of Beam Wire Scanners (PS, SPS, PSB). Schedule PS x 5; SPS x 5; PSB x 8 (18 instruments in total) Plan is to have the same design of the instrument for all the machines

According to schedule the productions drawings should be started. We would like to get the feedback from impedance team before launching production drawings for BWS PSB prototype: Geometry of vacuum chamber Optical disk shield Possibly add several vacuum interfaces for diagnostic tools (CF16) on the chamber Questions and Discussion

Thank you for your attention!

Beam Wire Scanner Functional Description A beam wire scan is an interceptive method for transverse beam profile measurements. The working principle of wire scanners consists on the passage of a very thin carbon wire (~30um) through the particle beam. The secondary particle shower generated by the beam/wire interaction, during the wire passage, is detected outside of the beam pipe and transformed into an electrical current proportional to the loss intensity. The beam profile is reconstructed by plotting the losses intensity versus the wire position (figure left). Using the measurements of these devices the beam emittance, and therefore the accelerator luminosity are calculated
