Presentation transcript:

Skin Pathology, Case 2 69-year-old male who worked as a roofer and house painter in the past. Examination of the skin reveals chronic sun damage A pearly papule is present near the left eye. The surface is focally ulcerated and prominent subepidermal blood vessels (telangiectasias) are present on the surface of the papule.

Describe this skin lesion Likely diagnosis?

This nodular basal cell carcinoma of the ear has a rolled border and a somewhat translucent appearance. Telangiectasia may be present.

Describe the skin lesion Likely diagnosis?

A small, nodular basal cell carcinoma on the upper lip, appearing as a somewhat translucent papule.

Describe the low power histologic findings

This is a photomicrograph of a shave biopsy of a basal cell carcinoma. Nests of basal cell carcinoma infiltrating the dermis Retraction artifact

Nodule of basaloid cells (basal cell carcinoma) exhibiting peripheral palisading Note how the basal cells of the carcinoma resemble the basal layer of the epidermis Basal layer of epidermis
