Toyota PEP Grant in Boone County Schools

Student Mastery Strengthen collaboration Instructional Strategies Vertical progression of Algebra standards

 Cohort of teachers grades 6-12 working in grade level bands and in vertical clusters  Also included representatives who specialize in special education  Instructional Coaches from each of the 9 schools  District Staff  Higher Education partners from NKU to facilitate and participate in discussions

 Started with a sample assessment item from Algebra 2 Quality Core End-of-Course assessment  What standards must the students have mastered at each grade level to display proficiency at this level?  What mathematical practices must students be proficient in, what does this look like as it develops over the grade-levels?

 Tasks of sufficient mathematical richness  Emphasize and intentionally address the 8 math practice standards (focus on structure, persistence in problem solving and mathematical modeling).  Utilizing technology to enhance student learning – Geogebra and Graphing Calculators

 Theory and plan of action  More in-depth reflection on our own classroom practices  Deeper connections between instructional practice, student mastery and the math of the standards.  : Lesson study.

 4 Lesson Study groups  Middle and High school teachers team together with IHE partners  Address questions of practice generated during Workshops and KCAS Algebra standards
