2 Kentucky Senate Bill 1 (2009) New content standards in English/language arts; mathematics; science; social studies New balanced assessments Program Reviews in writing; arts/humanities; practical living /vocational studies New state accountability system

3 Common Core State Standards Kentucky first state to adopt CCSS in February 2010 Cooperative effort: Education Professional Standards Board (teacher certification), Kentucky Board of Education (K-12), and Council for Postsecondary Education (higher ed) chairs and their agency leaders all signed on

4 Standards Implementation SB 1 states that teachers and administrators receive training in how to:  integrate the standards into classroom instruction  better integrate performance assessment of students  help all students use higher-order thinking and communication skills

11 Dynamic, searchable Web-based tool Available 24/7 though any computer Connects and aligns KCAS with deconstructed standards and Core Content for Assessment 4.1 with a wide range of instructional resources from SAS and Discovery Education Statewide rollout at the end of the summer

12 Later phases include:  additional instructional resources  student demographic data  student assessment results from KCCT (core content tests), ACT, PLAN and EXPLORE  formative assessments  professional development management; teacher/leader effectiveness  school/district improvement planning
