 Storytelling is a common part of every culture. In general, people enjoy listening to stories. Storytellers have taken advantage of this and shown off their skills in the form of a 'good story' since the beginning of civilization.  You may have your own favorite story from childhood and, sometimes, these tales are both fascinating and frightening. Stories like these include myths, folktales, and legends.

 An old story, handed down through time, that might tell about gods and heroes or explain events in nature. A story which is told as if it were a historical event.

 Story passed down through time and often reflects the beliefs and values of a culture.  A myth is a story based on tradition or legend, which has a deep symbolic meaning.

Examples:  Unicorns  The Greek myth of Prometheus, a human being who stole the secret of fire from the gods and was punished with everlasting torment, purported to explain the origin of mankind's use of fire.

 A folktale usually has no known author. Folk tales are stories that are passed down from one generation to another by word of mouth.

 Are usually simple and direct  conflicts are clear  good is rewarded while bad/evil is punished  Sometimes the characters may possess magic or some type of supernatural characteristics  Usually has a happy ending

 Well…Myths, folktales and legends are hard to classify and often overlap.
