Squeeze/Bunch Concept 1 Philosophy “ MINI CURL” “SPACING” ‘Mini-Curl’ and ‘Spacing’ are ‘cousins’ in the sense that they both evolve from the Flat-Curl family. They both offer something unique in that they speed up the timing of the Flat-Curl concept and present a different challenge for defenses! “Mini-Curl” is designed to isolate the flat defender and close the deal before he can get help from the CB or from the next inside LB! Its rhythm, in effect, eliminates the ‘danger’ player! It is a 2 x 2 idea! ‘Spacing’ is a 3 x 1 idea whose thought process begins with trying to get a one-on-one weakside, and is thus the ‘Choice route’ of the Quick game! To the frontside, it is a triangle read that uses an Arrow, Mini-Curl, and a sit to create a 3-on-2 with good ‘SPACING.’ The under coverage cannot get help to the weakside receiver and still have enough underneath defenders left to break on the three frontside ‘spacers’! TAGS/VARIATIONS “Takeoff” Squeeze/Bunch Concept Act 2-3 KEYS to a successful play: Splits on the Mini-Curl! They are DIFFERENT than normal Curl for a REASON! SPACING by the three receivers in ‘Spacing.’ Get good width on releases! Don’t let one LB cover two guys! MINI-CURL DIRECTORY

MINI-CURL V O O I I Speed break to 7: Get inside flat defender 7 91-191 Instructional MINI-CURL Speed break to 7: Get inside flat defender 7 SPRINT to 4-5! V 1 step, get FAST width, take flat defender OUT! O O I Top #s (Hash +1) I 3-step drop, eyeball/shoulder turn flat defender onto Arrow, throw Qk Curl in the hole off your pop-up step. 1/2way +1 If he backs up/walls, hit Arrow off anchor FS/OUTS INS: ARROW. Split 1/2way +1. Goal is to attract flat defender’s attention and get him to run with you; technique is a bit different than basic Curl in that you are emphasizing WIDTH more than DEPTH. Take one 45º step, then accelerate almost flat to the sideline, snapping your head around on your 3rd step out of the break without slowing down. Can turn up once 5 yds from the sidelines if you don’t have the ball and there’s no Quick Corner in the deep ‘sandbox.’ FS OUTS: MINI CURL. You want to get the feeling of running a semi-circle around the flat defender and getting into the window inside him before he can react. For that reason, cut your split to Top #s (Hash +1). Use same components of Curl route, just shorter: Sprint to 4-5, Speed break to 7, Drumroll redirect back to QB at 7 after burst/lunge. Take an angle that gets you INSIDE the flat defender, INTO the window, then come back THROUGH it. Ball should be waiting on you. Make a 180º spin after catch, split the zone North & South. QB: Pre-read side with widest flat player/furthest danger player. 3-step pop-up, move the flat defender onto the Arrow with your eyes and shoulders, reset hips and hit Quick Curl in the window when he leaves. If he backs straight up, anchor step and hit the Arrow quickly. Vs. Pressed CB, check out or check ‘Fire.’ MINI-CURL DIRECTORY

Sit past far leg of 2nd LB. Face QB, give him eyes if available 91-191 Instructional Mini-Curl ‘Spacing’ Speed break to 7: Get inside flat defender 7 Sit past far leg of 2nd LB. Face QB, give him eyes if available 7 I O O SPRINT to 4-5! V V 1 step, get FAST width, take flat defender OUT! M I O OT +4 3-step drop, read shoulders of flat defender “Rt” Shown Spacing Sit is your eye contact outlet BACKSIDE: MIRROR or INDIVIDUAL. If you’re by yourself, use ‘Individual’ rules, Quick Out as default, hand signal if you want something else. If there are 2 backside, mirror the frontside rules with Mini-Curl & Arrow from normal 2 x 2 spacing. FS/OUTS INS: ARROW. Split OT +3 or 4. Can turn up once 5 yds from the sidelines if you don’t have the ball and there’s no Quick Corner in the deep ‘sandbox.’ FS MID: SPACING SIT. Goal is to hold 2nd short defender and stay open if he flies past you. Take a preferred inside release, aim for a spot 6-7 yards deep 2 yards beyond his far shoulder to help create ‘spacing.’ Sit & face QB. If you feel the defender leave, you can slide as far inside as the next LB inside allows or just SLIGHTLY outside if you feel inside-out pressure. FS OUTS: QUICK CURL. Align 2 yards outside M, run Mini-Curl with a slightly widened stem to create ‘spacing.’ You want to burst beyond the flat defender as fast as you can to get out of his sight line, then run the top of your curl in such a way that you feel yourself ‘running around’ the flat defender. Speed break at 4-5 yards to a thin Slant angle, drop hips & accelerate back through the hole at 7, presenting your numbers to QB. Any sliding must be done AFTER numbers are presented and OUTSIDE, not inside! QB: PSL for a clean ‘Individual’ if you have a BS single. 3-step drop, FS is a true ‘key defender’ read off OLB. If he backs up, anchor step to Arrow route; if he opens his shoulders at all and/or overflanks pre-snap, hit the Mini-Curl off a pop-up step. Sit route is Outlet, can also be ‘Q’ in Hot or Warm protection, can be your first look v. an empty LB box. 2nd LB is ‘danger.’ MINI-CURL DIRECTORY
