MOSES AND MARTIN LUTHER KING JNR

BIOGRAPHY  Martin Luther King – Martin Luther king was a was an American activist, pastor, humanitarian and leader in the African-American Civil Rights Movement. He’s an inspirational man and considered a modern day prophet because of his work to advance civil rights and equality, using nonviolent civil disobedience based on Christian beliefs. He was a great help to Americans obtaining better equality. Martin Luther King was assassinated in  Moses – Moses was born around 1500 BC. Moses was chosen to rescue the Israelites and take them away from slavery and give them God’s laws. Moses is featured in the book of Exodus. The Pharaoh enslaved all of Israel, and when the Hebrew slaves began reproducing faster the king felt threatened by a potential revolt against his authority, so he gave orders that no more male Hebrew children should be allowed to live, but Moses escaped. Moses soon freed all the slaves he then created the ten commandments. Martin Luther King Moses

HOW THEY ENCOURAGED YOUTH  Moses – Moses encourages youths to be more understanding and that slavery is wrong. Moses teaches us that everyone should be treated the same and deserves to have equal rights. Just because someone is from somewhere else doesn't mean they can be slaves to your culture. He had sympathy and pity for his people even though his people may have done serious things in the past he taught them that god is kind and loving and eager to pardon us.  Martin Luther King – encouraged youths and adults alike to stand up for what is right and to peacefully protest. Rather then aggressively protest they would do it with peace intensions only wanting to have equal rights rather then be mistreated. Martin Luther King felt that our survival for the youth of today was dependent on our ability to stay awake, adjust to new ideas, be vigilant and face up to the challenge of change in our world. Martin Luther King Moses

CHRISTIAN VALUES  Martin Luther King showed Christian values by standing up to inequality and by treating everybody the same. In his country African Americans were treated as inferior, second- class citizens and not allowed to vote. They lived in dreadful living conditions and were exploited by white employers. They were segregated by being forced to go to different schools, restaurants, seats on buses, swimming pools, etc. All humans were created in the image of god and there is only one human race, this shows that there is obviously no racism and only equality in the bible. MLK most importantly non-violently protested against inequality not harming anybody. Martin Luther King Moses

SIMILARITIES AND DIFFERENCES Martin Luther King Moses American. Protestor. Murdered. Peacefully protested. Believed that God is all forgiving. Wanted to live in a world of harmony Baptised a Catholic Died of Old Age. Born in Egypt but was an Israelite Believed in the wraith of God. Jewish Went to war over beliefs.  Had a dream or vision.  Both used Religious means to spread the word.  Liberated their people.  Taught how to lead people.  Both did not make it the ‘promised land’ dyeing before entering it.

WHAT CATHOLIC SCHOOLS COULD LEARN TODAY.  Moses – Moses knew god better then anybody else so he was true hero of faith. Young people of today can still live out Moses dream by abiding by the laws that god gave him, the ten commandments! These commandments are basically what laws are based on that as a society we try to abide by. Catholic school settings are a good opportunity to impart these commandments on our youth of today to encourage our communities to live in harmony.  Martin Luther King – “Our lives begin to end the day we become silent about the things that matter.” This famous quote is an inspiring quote for all young people to live by. This should challenge us in daily life and should be an important part of our learning in catholic schools. As should his quote “all men are created equal” which as Christians we should all aspire to live by and encourage society to live by. Martin Luther King Moses
