s.p.i.e.s EMOTIONAL

Circle the “most correct” answer. QUIZ: Emotions Out of Control?

O Scoring: If you scored mostly A's: Let it go! You're all bottled up. It's hard for anyone to tell if you're down in the dumps or floating on cloud nine. When you don't share your emotions with anyone, the people who care about you won't know how to help. God doesn't want you to keep everything inside. He gave you friends and family to help you through the good times and bad. The next time you feel sad, remember it's cool to cry. And don't be afraid to leap for joy when you're happy. O If you scored mostly B's: You seem pretty balanced, and that's a good place to be. You're comfortable with your emotions. You're not afraid to show them, but you don't let them rule your life, either. You're able to shed a tear now and then, but you also know laughter is definitely the best medicine. O If you scored mostly C's: Hold on! You're on an emotional roller coaster! You overreact. You might want to find some positive ways of expressing your emotions, like journaling or talking to your family and friends. Remember, it's important to express your feelings, but you can't let your emotions rule your life. That can keep you from thinking clearly and making good decisions. It also can keep you from being much fun to be around!

O Our emotions are a gift from God that helps us to make connections between the outside world and ourselves. O Emotions encourage us to act or not to act. O Without emotions, we might be indifferent to both good and evil. (What would our world be like if we didn’t react emotionally to violence?)

Read “Bound in Leather” on pages in Be With Me and discuss. Reflect on questions #1-4 on page 41.

Read “Passions” and “Emotions Call Us to God and Others” on pages Using the first paragraph of the section, explain why we have emotions. 2. Can emotions be either good or bad? Give at least two examples in your response. 3. What should we ask ourselves every time we feel a strong emotion? Why? 4. What does feeling anger tell us? What does feeling love tell us? What does feeling hate tell us? 5. What is every emotion a sign of? What do emotions call us to do? (use a quotation from the second section of the reading in your response)
