Scientific Method Foldable Mrs. Salmon

How to construct 1.Fold piece of paper hotdog/taco/burrito style 2.Watch me to see how to fold your foldable! 3.Start on the top flap and write down the following: top flap: Asking Questions 2. Form a Hypothesis 3. Test Hypothesis 4. Analyze Results 5. Draw Conclusions and 6. Communicate Results

Asking Questions and Form Hypothesis Asking Questions: Asking questions helps focus the purpose of the investigation. Scientists often ask questions after making observations. Form Hypothesis:A hypothesis is an explanation that is based on prior scientific research or observations that can be tested. Usually written as an If/THEN statement.

Test Hypothesis Test Hypothesis: After you form a hypothesis, you must test it. Testing helps you find out if your hypothesis is correct or not. Must be a controlled experiment with independent and dependent variables. Independent Variable: variable that is purposely changed to test hypothesis Independent Variable begins with “I”. So ask yourself what is one thing “I” would change. Dependent Variable: changes in response to what you do to the independent variable. It’s what we look at to get our results.

Analyze Results and Draw Conclusion Analyze Results: Once you have your data, you must analyze them to find out whether the results support your hypothesis. Create tables and graphs. Draw Conclusion: At the end of an investigation, you must draw a conclusion. Your conclusion can help you decide if your hypothesis was correct or if you need to test your experiment again.

Communicate Results Communicate Results: One of the most important steps in an investigation is to communicate your results accurately and honestly. Helps people learn from one another and gains credibility.
