Presentation transcript:

making predictions Thinking about what might happen is called making predictions.

When you make predictions, you are like a detective.

clues You use clues in the story (or in your life situation) to help you predict.

already know You also use what you already know.

We make predictions all the time: Who will win the game? What will be for dinner? Will I do well on my test?

We can even use predicting outcomes to help us in school! I want to do better in math. I know what I’ve been doing isn’t working. If I start ___________, my grades will improve. I’m having a hard time getting my homework done. I know the late points (or zeroes) are hurting my grade. If I don’t change, I predict…

We also need to make predictions while reading. WHY? To become a better reader. To make reading more fun!

A chart like this can help you make predictions.

Clue in the Story What I Know Character’s Traits Prediction

Clue in the Story Charlotte knows where the key to the gun safe is. What I Know Character’s Traits Prediction

Clue in the Story Charlotte knows where the key to the gun safe is. What I Know Zachariah and Charlotte know they are the ones who must stop Jaggery. Character’s Traits Prediction
