A Typical Day in Second Grade Morning Meeting Core Knowledge: Word Work (Skills Strand- phonics, spelling, grammar, decoding) Read Aloud (Listening & Learning- comprehension, vocabulary, oral language development) Go Math Lunch/Recess Specials Physical Education Science Art Music Technology

Core Knowledge Throughout the Skills Strand lessons, students will work on Grammar and Word Study. Grammar: Proper/ Common Nouns Plural Nouns Dictionary Skills Verbs (Past and Present Tense) Adjectives Adverbs Sentence Structure (complete/ incomplete/ run on sentence) Word Study: Short and long vowel sounds Spellings for the long vowel sounds (Ex: Long a: a, ai, ay, ea and ei) Writing: Narratives Informational Opinion
