Year 1 Parents Presentation This parent presentation aims to inform parents/carers about the new curriculum in year 1 and how you can support your children.

What subjects make up the new Curriculum? Also, we must make provision for SMSC (Spiritual, Moral, Social and cultural)

Expectations by the end of year 1 …

Homework  Abacus homework is set at the beginning of each week and will link to the planning that is being taught for that week. Education city is also a good tool.  The Login in for abacus should be : Childs Name abacus  Number Facts  Reading – Daily reading  Spellings

How can you help your child at home?  Practicing number fact work, or other ongoing maths work, with your child – I say, you say – make it fun.  Practice counting with fingers!  Help with spelling practice, and discuss how these spellings can be put into sentences.  When you listen to your child read, ask them lots of questions.

Useful (free!) links: sequencing-numbers A really useful website with opportunities to apply skills in different areas of mathematics. Areas on the site for different age ranges. 5-7 or Games in all areas which are suitable for KS1. English and maths games aimed at Year 1 and above. Phonics games for all phases.
