Year Six Parents Information Meeting

2 School must carry out each test on specific days.
KS2 SATs will take place in the week beginning 13th May Pupils will be tested on reading, maths and Spelling, Punctuation and Grammar (SPaG). School must carry out each test on specific days. Monday Tuesday Wednesday Thursday English - grammar, punctuation and spelling Paper 1: questions 45 minutes Paper 2: spelling Approx 20 minutes English –Reading 1 hour Mathematics – Paper 1: Arithmetic 30 minutes Mathematics –Paper 2: Reasoning 40 minutes Mathematics – Paper 3: Reasoning

15 What can you do to help your child prepare for the SATs?
Reading Make sure your child reads their library book or badger book daily. Use online practise SATs test. Talk to your child about what they have read, ask them to summarise and make predictions about events. Listen to your child read aloud as often as possible. Ask your child to explain the meaning of words in the text. Reading at speed

Spelling, punctuation and grammar Ask them to use their IXL account to practise skills taught. Ensure your child learns their spellings each week. Test your child on their spelling and look carefully at the spelling patterns giving them similar words to practise. Use online practise materials.

17 What can you do to help your child prepare for the SATs?
Maths Ask them to use their IXL account to practise skills taught. Ensure your child can recall multiplication and division facts up to 12 x 12 – use times table rock stars. Give your child time to practise arithmetic questions. Ensure your child completes their homework on time. Encourage them to solve simple everyday problems eg how much is the total cost, what time do I need to take this out of the oven?
