The Deerpark Bridge was built in the 1830s to link Antrim Castle Gardens and the Massereene Estate with the Deerpark and Lough Neagh.

The Motte castle was the centre of an Anglo-Norman manor settlement. The timber castle would have stood on the top of the mound.
