2. LIFE IN THE COUNTRY.
Most people living in the Middle Ages lived in the country, and worked as farmers.
Usually, there was a local lord who lived in a large house called a manor or a castle.
Local peasants would work the land for the lord.

3. PENSHURST PLACE.
I imagine that Penshurst Place was the largest house in the area.
I looked on the internet, and found out that mainly farm workers lived in our house.
I think these farm workers would have worked the land that belonged to Penshurst Place, because our house is on the Penshurst Place estate.

4. TUDOR HOUSES.
In the late Middle Ages rich people made their houses out of brick.
Bricks were very expensive, so they also used timber. Houses that are half made of timber are called Tudor houses.
Our house is a Tudor house.

5. THE MIDDLE AGES.
Our house was built in the late Middle Ages, in 1327 we think.
It is over 700 years old, and it is still standing!
I think the outside of the house looks the same as it used to, but I think the inside is very different.
