Elementary & Middle School Boundary Committee Operating Principles & Guidelines School boundaries are established directing student enrollment to be no more than 85% of building capacity under ideal conditions. To the greatest extent possible, elementary school boundaries should allow all fifth grade students in a school to feed into one middle school to promote consistency and continuity of student associations. In geographic areas of high density population, the District will encourage “neighborhood” or “walk in schools” by boundary placement. To minimize disruption to established school boundaries, only schools with current or forecasted enrollment capacity problems will be addressed as they relate to overall district long-term planning issues.

Elementary & Middle School Boundary Committee Operating Principles & Guidelines (continued) School building capacity will be reviewed based upon current instructional practices and specialized education programs in each facility to address educational equity and balance. Socio-economic demographics and student makeup of each boundary area will be given consideration to offer balance, diversity and opportunity between schools. Where each Middle School is approximately the same size in total square footage for instructional space, boundaries will be established to limit an overall variance of not more than 150 students.

Proposed Elementary School Boundary Changes

Proposed Middle School Boundary Changes

Results of Proposed Boundary Changes Elementary Schools will be at 85% or less of enrollment capacity and Middle Schools will be approximately 75% of enrollment capacity or less. Eleven (11) of the thirteen (13) elementary schools will now feed directly into a middle school. Greenacres and Washington Elementaries are the only exceptions. School enrollment capacity was reviewed identifying instructional programs, looking at number of classrooms and other instructional spaces. Middle School Boundaries balanced enrollment among schools within 121 students. Boundaries were reviewed to provide natural or geographical breaks to facilitate bus transportation of students to and from school. Proposed elementary and middle school boundary changes should allow for individual school capacity within each school for the next 5-10 years depending upon student enrollment growth.
