Name Sign Name signs are _Highly Valued______ in Deaf Culture. Having one shows you are accepted by the Deaf community because you made the effort to learn Deaf culture and ASL.

Some people with short or easily fingerspelled names will………. Fingerspell their names

ASL name signs are combination of the person’s name (usually the first initial) and a location on the head, torso, or hands where the sign will be made. This is called…… Arbitrary

Another type is Descriptive_name signs, which shows a physical or behavioral trait the individual is know for.

Topics If you put the main focus of your sentence at the beginning and then add information about it. You made a topic sentence. __t___ Example: MY CAR BLUE. Your main focus of the sentence is CAR. What you are telling me about the CAR is that it’s BLUE.

More Examples ______t____ YOUR FRIEND NICE. __t__ MATH HARD. _________t____ MAN OVER THERE TALL. ___t__ MY PEN NOT WORK.

Rhetorical Questions When you want to answer your question, you use a Rhetorical (WH-WORD). _rhq_ WHY Example: I NEED GO STORE WHY? I NEED MILK. English: I need to go to the store because I need milk.

When signing a Rhetorical Question, YOUR EYEBROWS MUST BE UP FOR THE WH-WORD. What do you put over the WH-Word? __RHQ__
