Circle of Safety

The Circle of Safety is a concept accepted worldwide to minimise damage to equipment caused by ground equipment. This concept involves to imaginary lines around the aircraft, 1 st line at 5 metres and the second line at 2 metres.

Circle of Safety

Before approaching the Aircraft YOU MUST

Circle of Safety Ensure the aircraft’s anti- collision lights are off, engines shut down, chocks inserted by the engineer and a clear thumbs up given before equipment or personnel approach the aircraft.

Circle of Safety Be aware of Jet intake and exhaust danger zones. Jet blast is powerful enough to overturn vehicles. The engine intake when powered up is strong enough to suck in a fully grown person. Do not approach any aircraft whilst the anti collision beacon is flashing. Always wait for the engineer to provide a thumbs up before approaching aircraft.

Circle of Safety All vehicles approaching the aircraft must: Test brakes at the 5 metre line and proceed at 5 kph Come to a complete stop at the 2 metre line, then approach at a crawl pace in low gear.

Circle of Safety Vehicles MUST stop at 5m line and again at 2m line when approaching aircraft. NO vehicles or equipment to be driven underneath the fuselage, also on wide bodied aircraft between the engines of a Qantas aircraft. Equipment must not be parked underneath wing tip of aircraft due to fuel spillage and possible fire hazard. Beware of slide deployment zones while working around aircraft.

Circle of Safety

Be aware of the following: Emergency evacuation areas, aircraft fuel spillage zone (potential fire hazard). Circle of Safety Zone Ramp staff must not drive underneath the fuselage, under the wings or between the engines due to low clearance.

Circle of Safety

Summary Always ensure the aircrafts red warning lights are off ! Always ensure you have received the engineers ‘Thumbs Up’ before approaching the aircraft. Always ensure you follow the instructions of the Leading Hand. And always ensure you report any Incident to your Leading Hand.

Summary These are Non-negotiable responsibilities
