 According to Oxford dictionary, the literal meaning of stress is:  “Pressure or tension exerted on a material object”

 “Selye (1956) defined stress as any non- specific response of the body to any demand made upon it. Typically, stress results when an individual's equilibrium is upset - when our behavior modes are not adequate to meet the demands of situations and when the failure to adapt has serious consequences.”

 Stress management works best when it is a lifestyle and not a response to a particular event  There are hundreds of techniques, strategies and self- help books out there but if you only turn to them when you are completely overwhelmed they will have limited effect  Preventing stress from becoming overwhelming is the key!
