How to Learn More And Reply to this Article... Stop horse abuse! All around the world Horse abuse cases What is going on? What is Going On? Have you ever wondered why there is horse abuse? Everyone should know what is going on! Many horses around the world are extremely underweight or malnourished. They may have severe wounds and have some injuries. These are all symptoms of abuse cases. There are three types of abuse; neglecting, abusing, and slaughtering. Neglect means not feeding or caring for them. Abuse means harming them or making them do dangerous things. Slaughter is killing them for their meat and selling it. Fortunately, some people would discover a horse who is abused or the owner would decide to bring him/her to a foundation. Now the horse has some help to survive, but they are still struggling. POWER WORDS! malnourished=poorly taken care off

Most abused horses miraculously survive. However, some don’t fare as well. Here are 2 cases that didn’t go well. Star is a filly who was purchased at an auction by a HorseAid volunteer. HorseAid is a non profit foundation who helps abused horses get better. They always use the old technique to show if a horse is underweight, “The ribs should be felt but not seen.” HorseAid knows how to compare the different breeds of horse or age so they know too. In 2003, HorseAid calculated that they got 18 abuse reports 1 month! Star is a Thoroughbred. She has a badly twisted foreleg and a hunched shoulder blade. This is caused from accidently being stepped on by her mother. She suffers a large amount of pain everyday. Despite the care that was given to her by HorseAid, she could not survive. She died a week after HorseAid obtained her. Wonder is an old mare. She had lost 60% of her average body weight. Wonder was force donated to HorseAid. The owners said they couldn’t afford to feed her anymore. Unfortunately, she collapsed from minimal care from her previous owners several days later. The HorseAid vet said Wonder could not survive. POWER WORDS! Volunteer: Someone who works without money. Mare: An adult, female horse Filly: A female baby horse What is going on? Horse abuse cases All around the world Stop horse abuse! How to Learn More And Reply to this Article... Horse Abuse Cases Star Wonder THINK: What would happen if no one helped horses who were abused?

All around the world Horses are not only abused in the USA, they are abused all around the world! Mexico is probably the biggest country in the world that has horse abuse. In 2009, about 78,00 tons of horse was slaughtered for their meat. Most of the horses were abused or sold at an auction. The people who attend an auction bid off who gets the poor horse. “People need to know. If you send a horse to the auction, those guys sitting in the front row aren’t buying for a pleasure ranch,” says Marc Paulhs, director of the Equine Protection for the Humane society of the USA.\ Some dog food products are made out of horse meat. Europeans even eat horse meat as a meal! It is difficult to estimate the number of abuse and neglect cases around the world, but there is a large amount. For example, Oregon had 5,708 cases in What is going on? Horse abuse cases All around the world Stop horse abuse! How to Learn More And Reply to this Article... Think: Where do you think people will most likely slaughter horses?

Stop horse abuse! Is there horse neglect in your area? If there is, here are a few ways to help prevent it! One of the things you can do is find out who is responsible for the abuse. You can contact them and give them specific information on what to do. Tell them to find help from a local animal shelter or give them an address for a specific store with supplies for their horse. Another idea is to educate people on how to spot horse abuse or neglect. If the horse is severely injured, has ribs that are seen, and looks filthy and poorly taken care of could be signs of that. Even if you do not live in an area with horse abuse, you can still stop it! Donate your time to volunteer at an organization around your state. You can even deposit money to a foundation for better care of these animals! More and more horses are dying around the world. Please, we need everyone’s help to save these horses! POWER WORDS! Educate: to teach or learn Inspire: to fill with a specific feeling Involve: to engage or affect into action THINK: Are there any other ways we can stop horse abuse? What is going on?
