Homeland security and borders WILLIAM MARSHALL CAP140

Purpose  The purpose of this presentation is to create an awareness of the threats that Ameica faces today, and is over looked.  As a combat wounded I have noticed less, and less coverage on the wars that we are still fighting.  With that being said we have also ignored the constant threats that we face everyday.  I just want to ensure that the people of America don’t get lost in our daily routines, and forget the dangers that we face.

Hypothesis  We as American’s face the threat of an attack on a daily basis. With that said we need to find a way to limit these threats by securing our borders to limit the possibilities of any event. I believe that if we amp up our border security we can help by limiting easy options that terrorists have. The Mexican border and the Candian border have many gaps that need to be filled in order to stop anything from happening. We the people hae to get our government officials attention to take care of our borders.  If and American crosses the Mexican border and commits a crime or is suspicious of a crime they are sent straight to jail. An example would be U.S. Marine Sgt. Andrew Tahmooressi. He crossed into Mexico by accident and has been detained for almost a year.

Borders and Security  In 2013 and estimated 11.7 million illegal immigrants were in the United states (Preston, 2013).  With those kinds of numbers of illegals in the United States what is to stop any other country or terrorist from crossing our borders.  Terrorist have been crossing our borders along with the drug cartels for years (Beck, 2012).  Another recent threat is the Ebola cases around the United states.  Other stories that we have on the news recently is the Islamic extreamists that are attacking anywhere with the opportunity.

Mexico and Canadian Borders  An infowars reporter simulated being a member of ISIS and crossed Lake Erie from Canada into the United States with a fake head. He did this to show how easy it is to cross the borders from Canada without even being stopped ("Isis terrorist’ crosses," 2014).  The Mexican border is open for illegals to cross almost freely as we only stop a small portion of the immigrants.  Through the Borders desiese and terrorists can get across at any time if our government does not put a stop to this soon.  Mexican women and American women have been kidnapped for years. They are transported to and from the US for sex slavery.

Mexican tunnels and crossings THESE ARE IMAGES OF A TUNNEL THAT CONNECTS FROM MEXICO TO THE US, AND ILLEGAL CROSSINGS AND ATTEMPTS TO CROSS.

How to help stop further events  I believe that if we close our borders off to illegals, and have immigration handled the way it is supposed to be. Then we can have more control of who comes in and out.  We as people need to stop getting lost in the politics of one side and start thinking about what is best for everyone.  Another way would be let our border patrol agents do what they are supposed to do and change laws that prohibit illegals into our country.  These gaps in our borders are a serious problem and need to be taken care of.

Terrorism at home and infiltrations  According to usarmy.mil terrorism has been growing within our borders for years.  We have had infiltrations in our military that include the Fort Hood attack and the Granade attack in Iraq (Hawkins, 2010).  Both were members of our US military that have converted or raised with their beliefes.

Conclusion  In order to Help protect the people of America we need to start to take our borders more seriously.  If we keep everything the way it is we may find ourselves in a bad situation in America.  Attacks of different kinds have happened in the past decate and we need to find a way to stop any kind of infiltration.  On top of that we need to protect ourselves from illnesses like Ebola that are here now. Ebola was brought here from West Africa, and that is another border issue we need to address.
