2 Smart Start What is better: more freedom and less protection? Or more protection and less freedom? Why?

3 Today’s Objective SWBAT explain the development of government and its purpose. SWBAT compare and contrast limited and unlimited governments.

4 Keep in mind… Today, you must be constantly considering the facts of life and the beliefs of other cultures in order to figure out what it is that you believe about governance and change. You need to REFLECT on your thoughts to make sure you figure out what you are going to believe as an adult.

6 Government The people in a country that have the power to make laws and to make sure that people follow the laws

7 Government Governments have many jobs or purposes.
There are many types of governments – some good and some bad Governments are supposed to help make the country organized and safe for people

17 Limited Government Limited government is a type of government where the power of the leaders is limited

18 Limited Government Limited government is a system:
where the people in the country have a say in their government where the rules or laws protect everyone where everyone has to follow those rules, even the leaders! Where the leaders have limited powers. There is a limit to what they can do. Leaders don’t have the power to do anything they want

19 Unlimited Government Unlimited government is a type of government in which the leaders have almost absolute power and can do whatever they want.

20 Unlimited Government Unlimited government is a system:
where the people in the country do not have a say in their government where the rules or laws do not protect everyone where everyone has to follow those rules, except the leaders! Where the leaders have unlimited powers. There is no limit to what they can do. Leaders have the power to do anything they want
