3  The Department of Homeland Security is made up of previously separate national security activities, including:  Counterterrorism  Border Security & Immigration  Disaster response and recovery  Cybersecurity HOMELAND SECURITY

4  The primary purpose of the United States Department of Homeland Security (DHS) is to  Protect the UNITED STATES from:  terrorist attacks  man-made accidents  natural disasters HOMELAND SECURITY

5  Counterterrorism is protecting the public from terrorist attacks.  What would be some of the responsibilities of the counterterrorism unit? COUNTERTERRORISM

6  Counterterrorism activities include:  Detecting explosives in public spaces and transportation networks  Helping protect critical infrastructure and cyber networks from attack  Detecting agents of biological warfare  Building information-sharing partnerships with state and local law enforcement COUNTERTERRORISM

7  The Department of Homeland Security prevents and investigates illegal movements across US borders, including the smuggling of people, drugs, cash, and weapons. BORDER SECURITY
