PEACE-COM Peace processes in community conflicts: From understanding the roots of conflicts to conflict resolution

Objectives: Analyse the causes and developments of community conflicts in Europe Develop tools and options for conflict resolution Promote a better understanding of conflicts Study what effects Europeanisation is producing on conflicts Analyse policies set up to handle conflicts Explore ways the EU could help resolve them Develop indicators to observe and assess the evolution of these conflicts

This project is divided in 8 work packages : WP1 will review history of conflicts and set up a typology WP2 will provide methods and tools for analysis WP3 will study the main actors of each conflict WP4 will study actions undertaken by groups in conflict. WP5 will focus on accommodation policies WP6 will elaborate indicators for monitoring conflicts WP7 will deal with dissemination of the results WPO will deal with all aspects relating to management

Case studies have been selected to ensure: geographical and cultural diversity diversity in terms of shapes and dimensions of conflicts The selected case studies are: Northern Ireland; The Basque Country; Cyprus; The Walloon - Flemish conflict in Belgium; The Central European Roma conflict in Hungary, Slovakia and the Czech Republic; The Slovene autochtonous minority in Austria; The Russian Minority in Estonia; Corsica; Kosovo, Sandzak, Vojvodina in former Yugoslavia.
