Conclusions of the Workshop Nicolae – Victor Zamfir

Almost 200 participants 55 institutions (15 companies) Experts in all ELI-NP related fields The Goals of the workshop were achievedworkshop The main characteristics of the project were confirmed The enthusiasm of the scientific Community is continuously growing

Experiments Most of the experiments proposed in the White Book are confirmed Several new experiments are proposed The configuration of the Experimental Hall was confirmed to be based on 8 main areas The Core Groups for writing the 8 TDRs were formed Next steps: - Strengthen the groups - Writing the TDRs (~1 year) - Call for Letters of Intend - Attracting and training human resources - Establishing long-term institutional collaborations ;

Lasers The 2 solutions identified in the White Book were confirmed 10 PW is achievable 2015 is very tight Parameters to be achieved in 2015: > 5 PW < 2 diffraction limit repetition rate > 1 shot/min able to study the synchronization in time of the 2 lasers Consortium formation was triggered two 10 PW APOLLON-type lasers, output energy higher than 200 J, fs, intensity higher than W/cm 2

Gamma Beam The solution specified in the White Book (LLNL warm X-band technology) was confirmed The parameters and the timeframe (3 and ½ years) are confirmed Participation of INFN experts - possible collaboration with LLNL - possible Consortium for operation and upgrade the most brilliant γ beam, 13 MeV, BW:10 -3 produced by Compton scattering on a 600 MeV electron beam (LINAC-X band)

Civil Engineering Radioprotection Shield from the FS was confirmed Proton source term from ELI-PP White Book has to be redefined Radioprotection group was formed Protection against vibrations: dialogue LLNL-GerbCompany Total Cost of the infrastructure 280 Mil euro 60 Mil euro Civil Construction M&O ~ 25 Mil euro/year 0.25 Mil euro HVAC/year Lasers area A= 78x5 m2, H=5m Experimental and accelerator area A= 116x 53 m2 H = m (Crane and resistence requirements)

“The initial review of the submitted project documentation shows that the project shows a relatively high level of maturity. The documentation is well elaborated, of a good quality and largely in line with the Commission’s guidelines for documentation for ERDF funding. It presents a good business case for the project. The project seems to comply will both EU and national objectives and strategies for Research and Development. It also fits in the scope of the relevant Sectoral Operational Plan for Romania (“Increase of Economic Competitiveness”).” JASPERS - initial review note

Next  Expected JASPERS Report – March, 2011  Expected Government Decision – March - April 2011  Expected European Decision mid 2011  Construction

ELI-NP Thank You !
