Transformation in Seattle & King County, WA Chrissy Russillo, Chief of Staff March 25, 2014

All Things Are Not Equal in Seattle Region

King County “Transformation Plan” 3 Increase equity in health and well-being for King County residents. Improve outcomes for adults with complex conditions (high risk, high cost) Improve outcomes in communities with the most to gain Results here ↑ stops pipeline of people here ↑

The Integration Initiative -Results – achieve large-scale results through system change (not pilots) -Collective impact - cross-sector table to stimulate system change, hold each other accountable -Capital innovation – including improving government performance and leveraging private investments -Public sector innovation – including overcoming outdated bureaucratic structures and better engaging residents Expectation of a cross-sector table in formation or in place

Government-funded $500,000 Catalyst Fund A tool to help make this shift happen: – Help remove financial barriers that prohibit organizations from making necessary changes – Jumpstart innovations where startup costs may not otherwise be available. Not intended to pay for current, ongoing services that groups are providing now, or for services that would need ongoing support in the future Should leverage other investors

The Challenges -Not what government typically does -Political priorities – holding on to “innovation money” when funding for direct services is being cut -Agreement on how and where to spend the money -Moving at government-speed -How well can we leverage money? -Combine in a single fund? Thank you!
