Means more than working together Occurs both formally and informally Is not a synonym for other terms such as teaming, consultation, inclusion or co-teaching. Cannot exist in isolation

What is Collaboration?

Collaboration requires parity among participants

Collaboration is voluntary

Collaboration is based on mutual goals

The object: for each participant to create a square The challenge: you must not talk while doing it

Individuals who collaborate share resources

Collaboration depends on shared responsibility for participation and decision making

Individuals who collaborate share accountability for outcomes

Interpersonal collaboration is: A style for direct interaction Between at least two coequal parties Voluntarily engaged in shared decision making As they work toward a common goal

Emergent characteristics  Value of interpersonal style  Development of trust in collaborative relationships  Sense of community Must be present to some degree in initial collaborative activities Increases from successful collaborative experiences
