Pages Nouns in Sentences A noun names a person, place, animal, or thing. A noun can be in more than one place in a sentence. Their hive is hidden in a tree. Both hive and tree are nouns. Hive is in the naming part. Tree is in the action part. Facts

Writing and Grammar  Look at the facts about bees. Write the nouns in the sentences. Bees live in a hive. Bees get nectar from flowers. Bees make honey for food.

Grammar

Teach/Model: Picture Dictionary  Turn to the Pictionary on pages 170 – 171 in your reading book.  Read the titles. Look at the pictures and read the labels.  I want to use these picture dictionary pages to find out where bees live. The words give me information, and so do the pictures. The words – house, pueblo, nest, log – name kinds of homes. The pictures show me exactly what some of the homes look like. By looking at the pictures, I can learn a lot of facts. For example, bees live in a hive.

Teach/Model: Pictionary Dictionary  Study the pages.  Where do ants live?  What lives in a log?

Wrap Up Your Week! How is a community of insects like a community of people? Why do we say that individual bees are very industrious?

fly sting buzz lay eggs cook food go to school have hobbies eat walk live in communities work play protect each other How is a community of insects like a community of people? What Some Insects Do What Some People Do

Next Week Next week you will read about ways people grow and change. You will see that even though things can change, there are some things that stay the same.
