What is CVT? 6/6/2014 cse651 3 The Connected Vehicle program is a large set of research activities centered around a vehicle or a mobile device that is equipped with communications and processing allowing those equipped platforms to be aware of their location and their status and to communicate with each other and with the surrounding infrastructure. Connected vehicle applications provide connectivity:  Among vehicles to enable crash prevention  Between vehicles and the infrastructure to enable safety, mobility, and environmental benefits  Among vehicles, infrastructure, and wireless devices to provide continuous real-time connectivity to all system users.

Why CVT? 6/6/2014 cse651 4 Today’s automobiles are like min-computing center. Added communication and mobile capabilities make them a computing on the move. Can we explore this rich collection of communication, computing and mobility resources to the benefit of the individual automobile as well as for other impactful applications benefitting the society?  Applications within the vehicle to promote safety, environmental benefits, performance, automation.  Vehicle to Vehicle communication network!!! Research and Innovation Technology Administration (of USA) : featured topic is Intelligent Transportations System (ITS): automotive safety, mobility and (green) environment choices

How can embedded system help? 6/6/2014 cse651 5 What we discussed so far is at the “macro” level… what are some of the ideas at the embedded system level? Lets discuss these? Which system and which ECU(s) of the automobile does this project deal with? What are the benefits or outcomes? Why are these important? What is wrong with or issues with existing solutions? How do you plan to address these? Describe your plan for design, implementation and testing of your solution. Execute your plan.
