4 A Finmeccanica Company 4ie-idxxxxxx-x 4 Main goals Design a proof of concept of an integrated seamless network which ensures: global personal connectivity access to broadband wireless multimedia communications and services to anyone, anywhere, anytime Develop specific enabling technology for: enhancing the user friendliness of the communications equipment aiding the integration of converging infrastructure technologies onto a common platform accessing customised services over networks operating with different radio standards across different frequency bands Provide SECURE wireless/core network integration through: an adequate middleware layer to efficiently access resources available in the wired part a GRID-enabled infrastructure to manage computing and storage resources

5 A Finmeccanica Company 4ie-idxxxxxx-x 5 A new vision of GRID Recently Grid technologies is seen as a more “rational” management of distributed resources in terms of: Load balancing QoS management Secure access As the amount of potential users is really enormous, the accumulated data processing and storage requirements are at least comparable to those of typical Grid applications Our vision is: to disclose Grid potentialities to a wider audience, which is mainly constituted of users with every day problems and requirements who want to access real-time and interactive context-aware applications
