Welcome to Copycat Portrait painting Identity Personal symbols Being ‘original’ or a ‘copy’ During the next couple of lessons we will be exploring… Image:

Lets start by exploring what portrait painting is and what it looks like… Image:

The word portrait means visual appearance of a person Painting means an artwork created using paint Image:

So then portrait painting means a painting of a person Images: What things can we see about this person? What is he wearing? What does he look like?

Images: Portrait painting often includes the shoulders and sometimes the hands but always includes the face. This is because the face can show us a lot about how the person is feeling or what they might be thinking… How might these people be feeling? What could they be thinking about?

Portrait painting can also include animals and pets not just people Image: Animal-Art Which of these might be pets?

Portrait paintings can look very different to one another. Image: Some may choose to use the paint in different ways to show different things. How is each one of these different to one another?

Portrait painting suggests that we only use paint... Image: But there are many different ways of showing portraits of people, animals and pets.

Image: You can use pencil to create a portrait drawing

Image: You can also use charcoal for portrait drawing

Image: You can use a camera to create portrait photography

Image: A portrait can be created through sculpture… This one is made from bronze material.

Image: This portrait sculpture is made from wax

Image: And this one is made from clay Does anyone know who this man is? Very good, yes this is Barrack Obama the president of the United States of America.

So portrait painting can be connected to all of these things Lets reflect on what we have learnt so far…

Image: So what have we learnt so far? Portrait painting… Can help show the visual appearance of someone Always includes the face – this can help show how the person might be feeling Can be animals and pets and not just people Can be painted in different ways

Image: So what have we learnt so far? We can create portraits using.. Pencil Charcoal A camera - Photography Clay Wax

Image: Now we have learnt about portrait painting, maybe we can create our own Maybe later we can try using one of these … Pencil Charcoal Paint Camera Clay
