Strategic Partnership of Information Professionals Ulla Virranniemi Rovaniemi Polytechnic Library of Technology

Changing environment Information specialists have no more privilege for information search We know why - now we have to decide how to change How to give best possible support to our organisation ?

Many possibilities Competence development, research, communication, documentation archiving, internet related tasks, information technology related tasks, teaching, scanning, analysing, reporting….

“Adding Value to Information: Today's special librarians do far more than locate and collect data. Using the Internet and other current technology, they also evaluate, analyse, organize, package, and present information in a way that maximizes its usefulness

Information service and business processes Two aspects to new possibilities –Business intelligence –Learning organization

Business intelligence

Learning organization "...They would be organizations that are able to grow, develop and change their personalities along with changing experiences. They would, in short, be intelligent, self-organizing brains that reflect all the qualities of what we have described as a learning- organization" Morgan 1996

Learning organisation Support for competence development –Competent employees do their job better –Learning employees are happy employees –Employees who can develop themselves in work commit to the company

Conclusion

But what is reality ? Can we really influence our place in the organisation? What kind of efforts it requires ? Our compenence is valuable, let’s show it !!
