Presentation transcript:

PLANT Adaptations

ADAPTATIONS: TO SUNLIGHT 1. Plants need light for photosynthesis 2. Epiphytes-plants that grow on other plants to get sunlight 3. Vines-plants that climb on other parts to get to sunlight

ADAPTATIONS: TO WATER 4. Plants need water for photosynthesis Plants that grow in water have: 5. Flexible roots -allow plant to move and not to break 6. Leaves are only on the surface of the water to absorb light 7. No roots-some plants do not have roots and absorb water through their stems/leaves 8. Drip tips-allow water to slide off leaves so bacteria & fungi wont grow on them

ADAPTATIONS: TO WATER Conserving water: 9. Small leaves to stop evaporation 10. Spines to protect plant from predation 11. Thick stems to store water 12. Waxy stem and leaves to stop evaporation

ADAPTATIONS: TO POLLINATION 13. Pollination is how some plants reproduce 14. Smell, color, nectar-attract different pollinators

ADAPTATIONS: TO SEED DISPERSAL 15. Edible fruit-animals eat the fruit and “drop” the seeds 16. Wind-light weight seeds can travel far with the wind 17. Water-some seeds can float way

ADAPTATIONS: CONSERVING ENERGY 18. Deciduous trees-lose their leaves in winter when photosynthesis is not possible

ADAPTATIONS: STRUCTURE 19. Thick bark-protects trees from wind and cold, give support to grow tall 20. Prop roots-ability to support trees in thin soil 21. Drooping branches and needle like leaves-allows snow to slide off and not break branches
