Languages GCSEs WJEC Languages GCSEs consist of four units: Listening Final Exam 20% Reading Final Exam 20% Writing 2 controlled assessments 30% Speaking 2 controlled assessments 30%

Entry Tiers In listening and reading your child is entered for foundation or higher. Their teacher makes that decision in conjunction with your child based on their past performances. Good performance in speaking and writing can make all the difference to their overall grade.

Speaking / writing tasks Your child should have already completed one speaking and one writing task. They are working towards their second controlled assessment which will take place in the new year. You can help your child by listening to them practise their speaking. You don’t need to understand what they are saying. Ask the questions in English.

Preparing at home Homework – Vocab learning is key to success on the listening and reading papers. Speaking / writing tasks – Encourage them to learn in “chunks” every night.

Help is at Hand! Mondays 1 o’clock in L4. Staff will be on hand to support your child’s learning. List of useful websites Any questions?
