The students will encounter a variety of genres this year. We will focus on fluency as we build more efficient comprehension skills. My goal is to instill literacy habits that will help children become life- long readers and independent thinkers. Mystery - A suspenseful story about a puzzling event that is not solved until the end of the story Realistic Fiction - A story using made-up characters but things happen that could take place in real life. Fantasy - Some stories tell about things that could not happen in real life. Folktale - A story from an oral tradition that may be a blend of history and legend.

Historical Fiction - A story that realistically recreates a pastime and is based on a true story. Realistic Fiction - Realistic characters and events come to life in a fictional plot. Informational - Texts that provide facts about a variety of topics (sports, animals. science, history, careers, travel, geography, space, weather, etc.) Biography - The story of a real person's life written by another person. Autobiography - The story of a real person's life that is written by that person. Personal Narrative - The author tells a story about someone of his or her own experiences.

Poem - Poetry is verse written to create a response of thoughts and feelings from the reader. Poetry often has rhythm and rhyme. Magazine Article - Are short informational pieces of writing. Play - A play is a story that is acted out by characters. It is sometimes performed on a stage.
